Challenge
A leading provider in professional and business solutions needed to establish unique identification codes for its diverse products to improve the efficiency of inventory management and delivery. However, this was a significant challenge due to its many products, each of which comes from several suppliers that use different barcode formats for the same product. Shipping details for individual items had to be manually entered into the client’s Sage 300 system, negatively affecting productivity. In response, the company approached Stone Forest IT (SFIT) for assistance in establishing a new system where each product is tagged with a unique 13-digit NATO Stock Number using QR code barcode labels.
Solution
After assessing the client’s requirements, SFIT proposed the following actions:
- Replace the existing manufacturer’s item number for each product in the client’s Sage 300 Inventory Control module with a unique NATO Stock Number.
- Use Goods Received Note (GRN) module in Sage 300 to automatically match details of products received from suppliers against purchase orders
- Print QR code barcode labels for each GRN verified in Sage 300
- Customise an application on an Android device (with scanner) to scan shipping data into Sage 300 and detect discrepancies between the shipping data recorded and actual deliveries
